I'm considering a late [whoops, '80s] Camry station wagon

I don’t know, they’re just starting to grow on me.

From what I gather, you can’t get a manual with the V6, but can with the 4-banger. I’d probably favor a good one with a stick.

Yeah I know, I haven’t given up on the old coupe search, but a boxy, inexpensive Toyota wagon is looking more and more appealing as I stare at my gigantic puppy and the distinct possibility of ever having more than 1.5 friends.

So basically, the car search is going about as badly as ever.

See if they offer one with ventilated seats. If not just cut/punch holes in the seat.

Alltrac! My Mom had a Camry wagon growing up, but an old person killed it.

Pictured wagon’s a 91 at the latest, you mean late 80s?

They’re great cars. The problem is that you can’t secure anything in them because whatever you have, people can see, and smash a window, and grab. Gimme a sedan with a trunk, por favor .

Good luck trying to find one of those. I haven’t even seen that gen/body style of the Sedan in probably 10+ years.

a 4 cyl with stick, if driven moderately, will last forever. And i mean forever or at least 300,000 miles/500,000kms. A friend back in Aus drove his up and down the east coast for surf trips, new spot each, a lot of dirt track driving and exposure to salt etc. The odometer had stopped when he bought it and was already ~350,000kms. I’m sure it’s met its end by now but the car had a good life, and i think cost <$2000

Growing up we always had Corolla wagons,

1992;

1996;

They were awesome, lots of room, and still a bit fun to drive.

would recommend.

Oh this is a tear-jerker post... I haven’t seen one of those ca. 1990 Corolla wagons in ages. There are a few sedans in town though. One house actually sold a pair recently.

I owned that car in that color - just not an LE. ‘88 Camry 5M base model wagon. The seats were comfortable, and the car was reliable. The only issue was a 2nd gear that went south, and I got Toyota to split the cost with me out of warranty. No airbags or ABS, but these are solid little cars. Wish I still had mine - I’d sell it to you.

I learned stick on the 92 - and handbrake on the 96..

We got both new and they each went over 300,000km before we sold them.. I think we did struts once on the 96.. that was it.

Not much a problem here. We don’t use salt on our roads so if it’s a local car chances are it’s minimal to none.

What you’ve pictured is a late ‘80s/early ‘90s Camry wagon. You couldn’t get a late ‘90s Camry wagon unless you lived in Japan or Australia.

My friend and his brother had a 1991 Corolla wagon for a while. If the clutch didn't go, it would still be on the road. That poor thing could take a ridiculous beating and shrug it off

The Camry is a great car, so there is nothing wrong with liking them :)

The V6 is nice, but almost impossible to work on should you ever need to get to the back of the engine like spark plugs or valve cover gaskets. Maybe Ted Cruz can carpet bomb his way past the intake shit.

I thought you could get a manual V6 up until 93 (early 3rd-gens). If not, there’s always the ES250 :)

Why not try and find a Cressida wagon? It’s basically a Celica-Supra underneath, most of the manual parts from said Celica-Supra bolt in. It ticks all the boxes except diesel. Twin cam, straight six, swap in a manual, rear wheel drive, most of them were brown, wagon. What more could you want, I ask you?
